About

Pictureb. 1996. Atlanta, GA (Photograph by Rose Shine)
Yari Mena is a mixed media Mexican-American artist from Atlanta. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Georgia State University.  She currently lives and works in Snowmass Village, Colorado.

Artist Statement:
My work combines reductive and additive techniques, such as melting, sanding, painting, and drawing on printed photographs. The content of my photographs ranges from past relationships to family photos to everyday moments. Through my process, I reflect on how memory is processed and how emotions and ideas can change how we remember and possibly forget.

I use printmaking to create tangible transfers: impressions and reliefs, creating the images from memory, photographic references, and my previous works.
